Why you’ve got to Tweet

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Twitter has become a great way for both bloggers and businss owners to get subscribers and followers. If you’re not Twittering, you better start!

For the few of you out there who don’t know what I’m talking about: Twitter is a free utility that you can use for sending social messages to your friends and subscribers. You post mini entries – this is also called micro blogging. Can you see the potential right in front of you? Over the past day alone, my Twitter follower count has grown with 300 people. Imagine you have a product to promote or a blog you want more traffic for? With Twitter you reach a MASSIVE amount of people with one micro message where you can add links as well. In 2008 Twitter had over 3 million members sending each other messages. Probably many, many more today. Of course you probably don’t have something to share with all of them but even when you have found your niche, there is a great market right there waiting.

A few tips on using Twitter:

1. You have 140 characters available for each Tweet. Use them wisely. Don’t write about your dog or your house plant that’s dying. Give people a glimpse of what you’re doing online – share important and interesting links, for example. Think of something catchy to make people notice you.

2. Offer advice and help. Are you an expert blogger or a trained chef? Offer your skills on Twitter to form a network that keeps following you. Make it worthwhile to follow you.

3. Always link back to your site if you give advice. There isn’t space for much with 140 characters available so always give a link with more help. This also gives you the extra website traffic you might crave.

Twitter tools:

Tweet-r : Share files on Twitter
TwitThis: Type the URL you want to share on Twitter
Twitterlicious: Read and write Tweets easily.

There are hundreds of nice Twitter tools out there so I suggest you visit Mashable and check it out. Another great link: http://mashable.com/2008/05/24/14-more-twitter-tools/.

If you’re asking yourself why you should Twitter when you’ve got Facebook and Myspace and Google FriendConnect, take it from me: You will learn stuff, find cool websites, build a network of potential blog visitors/buyers, keep up with current news (inspiration for blog posts perhaps) and you get to share your knowledge with the world in a new, exciting way.

Go Twitter.

May/December relationships, tell us your opinion!

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Soon we will publish our very first video entry about this subject and we’re gonna be talking about how we met years ago.

Snap_2009.06.22 18.58.19_007 And as luck – or bad luck – would have it, Dr Phil has also chosen to write about May/December relationships today and he doesn’t have much confidence in it at all. He’s very critical indeed and so are most of the people who have commented. I do understand that it’s a controversial thing although I gotta say, ages ago it was quite the norm for a young woman to find a partner twice her age. It made her family feel good that she was with someone older and wiser when it came to life experience. Not so today. Today’s he is called a dirty pig and she is called a gold digger.

Naturally there are lots of things to consider when you venture into a May/December relationship and you do have more things stacked against you from the start. It’s important to realize that. The older partner will age much faster than the younger one and you will inevitably experience things on different levels and it might be hard to relate to the other one. He’s finding it hard to get up off the chair and she can’t relate. She is enthusiastic and energetic and he can’t keep up.
So many things can go awry. So you’ve gotta weight things out, take baby steps and see how you both feel. You’ve also gotta consider your partner and not just yourself.

I can’t say I totally agree with Dr Phil because he sounds like he writes the whole thing off from the start. There are, however, people out there in quite succesful May/December relationships who have won the battle that he speaks of.

Tell us what you think of this kind of relationship. Can it ever work?

Bigtime news

Monday, June 29, 2009

Okay maybe not. But it’s huge news for me anyway. I got a hair cut for the first time in ages. My mom usually cuts my hair and she is really good at it but this time I figured: Gitte, treat yourself. You never treat yourself.

So I did. Went to a pro hairstylist and got my new haircut this morning. It would be wrong to say we hit it off.
What do you get when you put together a social phobic with a man who suffers from verbal diarrhea? Answer: A pretty weird situation. He asked about my occupation which I never really get why hairdressers do? I mean, do you really need a job to get a haircut? Then when I told him I am retired due to anxiety, his face got weird and he said something to the effect of: “Well, certainly you’re getting back out there to work when you feel better, right”?  And it was asked in a way that I really couldn’t say no, although I know within myself that I won’t ever feel that I can work. But anyway, I answered with a very cheerful “Yeah sure!” and he kept talking and talking. And talking. We were not a good match.

Anyway, I brought a picture with me to show what kinda thing I wanted him to go for hair-wise and he shrugged his shoulders and said: “Well, I am not a magician but we can try”. What??? The picture I brought was not of Princess Di. It was actually just a woman with hair quite similar to mine, only shorter.

But he cut and talked and talked. And I showed my biggest smile, pushing my teeth together and thinking “Please God, let this nightmare end”. And after ½ hour it did end.

I walked out of there with a new hairstyle that I am quite happy with. Don’t think I am coming back though.

We just did NOT hit it off.

Here’s my hairstyle:

What do you think?

Tell me about your weird hair salon experiences. Ever felt totally embarrased or that you just did not like your hairdresser?

Spill your guts!

Private collection

Image via Wikipedia

Your hair looked funny in the video. It wasn’t his exact words but something very similar. The meaning was the same, anyway: You should do something about that before the next video cos it looks ridiculous.

The suggestion was innocent enough. Perhaps even meant in a friendly way. Unfortunately it kinda pushed the switch inside of me that plays an all too familiar recording: You are dumb, you look like crap, you are worthless, you are a fool for thinking anyone will waste their time on you, you are a charity case and whoever is with you should be rewarded for being so damn patient. Bla bla bla.

It’s an ugly tape and it takes virtually nothing to switch it on. That’s why I don’t blame him for saying what he did, he was merely pointing out that appearances are important when you make videos to share with people. I kinda think the message I am trying to get across – that noncustodial parents need to come out in the open and help each other to kill the taboo – is way more important than my hair. I think the guy who said this agrees with that, too. It was an innocent remark about my hair. And I crashed and burned. I got so incredibly sad at the thought of my own appearances. That started the whole scenario that I have gotten so used to over the years, albeit with different partners: I know you’ve got problems but I am still willing to be with you. Like I am some sort of freak whom no one will be with except if they’re incredibly courageous and self-sacrificing. Like someone shrugging their shoulders and going “Yeah I’ll be with you..if I absolutely HAVE to”. No way I am ever playing that role in a relationship again. Ever. If someone gets to be with me, it’s because I am magnificent and they see it – not cos they pity me or have some need to be validated for their good, patient work – on ME.

I do have issues. Not more so than other people, though. I just sometimes tend to pick men who focus on my issues and wanna fix them or constantly remind me about them because it makes them feel like they’re saviors (not speaking of my ex husband here though – he didn’t do that). I wonder why I do that. It’s definately not a conscious choice. I am, however, making a conscious choice to never follow that road again. I am a wonderful woman with many fine qualities and although I do get overly emotional quite often and tend to be worried about stuff I have no control over, I am well worth being with. This is not a sales commercial: I am just stating the fact that I have come to this conclusion within myself and that’s a good thing.

The instance I feel myself withering away and forgetting who I am and forgetting that I am GREAT within my own right, I back off. I have learned the lesson years ago: Better happy alone than sad with someone. A relationship is supposed to be a asset to an existance that is already working on it’s own. You need to be happy about yourself and your life, then go for a partner if you think you need one. Not the other way around: Don’t get a partner to make you happy. It’s never gonna happen.

Tell me a little about your choice of partner. What qualities are important in a partner? Why do you need a partner? Have you ever let yourself wither away within a relationship?

Michael Jackson is dead, how am I supposed to feel?

Friday, June 26, 2009

Michael Jackson at the White House Ceremony to...

Image via Wikipedia

Michael Jackson is dead and I am not sure what to feel about it. The media has already gone crazy and so has all the fans and all the Michael haters out there. He’s still getting talked about, dead or alive.

I grew up with Michael Jackson and I loved so many of his songs. He truly was a musical genius.

I remember singing along to Dirty Diana, Man in the Mirror, Earth Song, Remember the Time..and one of the early songs: Liberian Girl. His music videos were movies and his sense of rhythm and style was impeccable.

Then of course came the child abuse allegations and everything changed for me. Even though he was acquitted, that nagging feeling was still inside me. Did he or didn’t he? And all of a sudden I found myself unwilling to even listen to his music because if there was the slightest chance he did molest those boys, I wasn’t going to be enjoying his music.

I am sure he lost quite a lot of fans on that account even though he was cleared of the charges. He never seemed to come back after that and I wonder if he chose to die rather than embark on the huge tour that was planned. Maybe he couldn’t face people after all? I don’t know. He might have “just” suffered a heart attack and finally found the peace he seemed to need so much.

Musical genius, wrecked man. No matter what he did or did not do, he is at peace now and I think people should be silent now.

Michael Jackson is gone. If you’re sad, cry. If you’re happy, be still.

Noncustodial parent video series, a bit about the launch

Thursday, June 25, 2009

I’ve given it some thought and I have decided to create a few videos about what’s it like being a noncustodial parent and what you (and I) can do to feel better about the situation.

These videos are not meant to give legal advice and I won’t be doing that. Rather they’re meant as an inspiration and a way for all of us noncustodial parents to reach out to each other, not just by the written word but by video. It’s much easier to bond and feel a connection when you can actually see the other person, right?

Here is my first entry.

How to share Youtube videos on Facebook

Should I make videos about being a noncustodial parent?

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

IMG_0154

I have been thinking about this for a while now but I have actually put it off because I am a little scared of it.

I am going to make some videos about being a noncustodial mom and it might be quite a painful venture for me to start on but I feel like it would be liberating for me to talk about it openly on video and share with you guys.

It’s so frightening! I mean, I have no idea who is watching. It could be anybody. It is anybody.

Plus I have a strict policy that I don’t post pictures of my close family and also don’t blog about personal stuff where I name names and stuff. I still want to avoid that so I need to find a way to speak about the subject of being a non-custodial parent in general but still touch someone out there and maybe make someone feel better..or worse..! Just connect on a deeper level. That’s what I think blogging should be for: Connecting with others, relating to things that we all share as human beings. It’s still a pretty scary thing putting myself out there for everyone to judge but when I think about it, we do that every day. If I do this, it might turn out to be a healing experience.

Who knows?

screammyskincolor

I happened to catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror today and the reaction .. well, look at the pic. It kinda speaks for itself, doesn’t it?

I was horrified. I am so white, it should be illegal for me to venture outside cos I literally blind people with my whiteness. It’s like a shiny white angel sliding down the street..!

So I decided it’s time to get a tan. I went to the suntan place for the first time in years and it was a wonderful experience. I laid there, butt naked, listening to the radio and pressing ALL the buttons the machine had. I mean, I really am a gadget person and I love buttons and electricity and noises. So I was in Heaven! I will be suntanning now for a while. Just wish I could shake that horrible feeling of waking up with cancer…Life is hard.

Photos from summer solstice in Denmark

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Hi guys, I am sharing some pics from the bonfire with you. Enjoy!

To view the full album, press “Se fuldt album”.

Summer solstice

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Here in Denmark the solstitial celebration is called Sankt Hans aften ("St. John's Eve") and it is the day where the medieval wise men and women would gather the special herbs that they needed for the rest of the year to cure people.
We have celebrated solstice since the days of the Vikings in different ways but mainly by making a huge bonfire to get rid of evil spirits. In the 20’s came the tradition of putting a straw witch on top of the bonfire, sending her off to “Bloksbjerg” (the mountain Brocken in Germany) where the witches were thought to gather on this special day. The witch on the fire was a remembrance of the witch hunt of the church from 1540 to 1693.

The celebration was today (June 23rd) and I made a few videos to share it with you:

Still at home but already so excited!

On my way to the bonfire, I stopped at the harbor and recorded the view!
Here's some footage from the actual bonfire.

Moroccan needs job in Odense, DK

Sunday, June 21, 2009

Casablanca Twin Center.

Image via Wikipedia

He’s a 44 year old man from Morocco. He has lived in Odense, Denmark for 10 years, has no work experience from DK but lots from London where he had no trouble finding or holding down a job. He’s taken numerous educations, the last one a really good one as a graphic media designer. He finished that education six months ago, straight back into unemployment, even though he speaks Danish fluently.

He thinks a lot of things speak against him in job hunting: His age, the fact that he is a foreigner, he lives alone with his 9 year old son and therefore can only work daytime. I’ve spent the whole weekend in the company of this man and my son (he is my ex husband) and he is so desperate to find a job, he will do almost anything. He keeps sending out applications but no replies.

He’s called to meetings at the job centre where they ask him: What’s your plan for the future, what are you going to do next? And he answers “I just want a job”. But they can’t help him to find one. They send him home, threatening with this and that, perhaps yet another course that he has already taken once before.
He’s tired of the system, tired of his life.

He used to live in London where he worked as head waiter. He had confidence in himself.

He just wants a job BADLY.

I wonder what keeps a person unemployed even when they really really want a job?

Every kid should learn this

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

A young Kalash baby wearing ethnic clothing.Image via Wikipedia

What are some of the skills we need to teach children? What have you taught your children?

Purpose

Find your purpose of life. It can be anything, big or small but it's very important to have a purpose.

How to have intimate relationships

I think kids should know how to develop intimate relationships through communication and empathy. If you have poor communication skills and little empathy for other, life will be very hard.

Live in the moment

A lesson I have hardly learned myself but I think it's best to live right in the moment, in the NOW because it's really all we have.

Running a household

By that I mean fixing stuff around the house, using the washing machine/dryer, dish washer, all the practical stuff they will need to know later on in life.

Love and compassion

Most importantly self love. If you don't love yourself, you don't have love to give.

Anti-competition

Being the kind of person who helps others to succeed in the job or life in general. A person who is not a back-stabber or feels resentment when others do well.

Motivation

I suppose that to achieve goals in life, motivation is a lot more important than discipline. If you are truly motivated to do something, you will almost always achieve it. However, if you have discipline and no motivation, you're likely to fail.

Critical thinking

This should really be taught in schools. Question everything, debate, have conversations about your opinion and why you feel the way you do.

Saving and budgetting

A really important skill for kids to learn: To administrate money. They're gonna need it!

Passion

Find something to be passionate about and go for it, do it for your job, enjoy it. Very important.

Letterman and Ramsay eating humble pie

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

031224F5435R005 David Letterman, host of the L...Image via Wikipedia

Is it me or has it just been a bad week for the loud mouthed people??

First I got wind that Gordon Ramsay did a very dumb thing down under: He was making a speech for a food fair audience when he showed them a picture of a woman on all fours with plenty of breasts and a pig face..and then he did the really dumb thing, saying it was Tracy Grimshaw. That’s when Grimshaw who had just interviewed Ramsay the night before called him an “arrogant narcissist” and the whole thing escalated. The Australian prime minister reacted and called Ramsay a “new form of low life”. Ramsay had to give an apology on Channel 9 News, eating a big piece of humble pie and admitting that the joke he made – although it did provoke a lot of laughter – was a mistake.

And now Letterman, having made a joke about Sarah Palin’s daughter, had to apologize on his own show. His exact joke was : "During the seventh inning, her daughter (Sarah Palin’s) was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez." (Palin had attended a Yankee’s game with her daughter). Letterman thought it was her 18 year old daughter Bristol but she was in fact accompanied by 14 year old Willow. So in Palin’s mind Letterman made a sex joke about a 14 year old child – which in fact he didn’t as he mistook the two girls. But it became such a big deal that he had to go on the air and apologize.

These two cases – and others – have made me think about just how uptight the world has become. There are way too many people with huge sticks up their butts, getting angry about little things. The world is becoming this hell hole full of health fanatics, religious fanatics and MORE fanatics. You can’t smoke, you can’t be fat and now you can’t make jokes.

I am scared.

Animals are good for you mentally.

Today I have just been outside for a little walk and then when I got back, I took a few pictures. I love taking photographs and I really need a new digital camera. It’s urgent. Anyway, I just did some laundry and I noticed water all over the floor..better get to work!

Snap_2009.06.14 16.31.05_002

This is my Blogger page where I write entries. Look at the fonts. I didn’t choose that! And next pic:

Snap_2009.06.14 09.49.49_001

The headlines on some feed entries. The weird font again. Where do I go to change these settings? I have the same problem with my Firefox browser which is why I switched to Flock.

Please help!

Oil on canvas

Image via Wikipedia

There was a time when I didn't have much of a social life. I suffer from social anxiety and I have never been one to mingle, go out for the night and strike up a conversation with a stranger. I would stay by myself and not talk with anyone. At home.

During the past few years something has happened though. I've been living on my own for quite a while now and I don't feel isolated quite so much. I use the internet as my place to be social on my own terms: When I am on Facebook, I can sign off if I get nervous; the same for Yahoo Messenger.

For those who say the internet is not a real way to be with people, all I can say is at least I am social, pushing myself a little further sometimes and talking to people. Without it, I still wouldn't go out and find social activities in another way - so taking the computer away would mean no social life, not pushing me to be active in a new and "better" way. I'd simply sit at home on my own.

The internet is a real blessing to me. I have lots of online friends who are nice people and I have begun audio/video blogging lately which is also a big step for me. I am still highly anxious and emotional but I get my social needs covered via the internet and I don't feel like I am missing out on anything.

How has the internet helped you?

The Sinister Tour

Sunday, June 14, 2009

Today I am taking you on a little tour of some true crime websites I visit often. If you’re interested in true crime, you might want to watch this video:

If you know of any other good, informative websites on true crime, please post them. I just want to say, I am not interested in websites who praise killers – I don’t want to go there – but sites with information, please.

Question for the HTML experts out there: Wibiya toolbar

Sunday, June 14, 2009

Here is my problem:

I have installed the Wibiya toolbar on my blog and I think you’re all able to see it at the bottom of my blog? I am experiencing a problem seeing it, though. The only time I see it is the first time I enter my blog via bookmarks – then it appears just fine but then when I update my blog, I don’t see it anymore, even when I clear my cache, reboot my computer and I even reinstalled Flock because I thought it might be a browser problem.

I have the toolbar installed on my Cliff blog as well and there it appears every time so I am thinking the problem is specific to my blog. Does anyone have any solutions to this annoying problem?

Thanks!

donkey
I am so sorry.  Yes i't’s time to apologize to the readers for acting too fast without thinking.
Yesterday I told you the blog would be moving because I was thinking: Better blog address, better branding, better chance of more readers.

Then my Facebook friend Hesham warned me that if I move my blog, I will lose all the traffic I have built up until now!
I obviously should have thought of that myself. DONKEY. But that’s me, acting a little too fast when it comes to my blog.

So we won’t be moving after all, there will be no name changing. We will remain at http://gittegorzelak.blogspot.com so we don’t lose all the people we have been so fortunate to gain in the last week. Not that blogging is all about how much traffic you get..

IT’S NOT.

But it’s a whole lot more fun blogging when you know there are more than 5 people a day reading it.

So we’re staying put. I am sorry for the confusion.

On top of my food..kinda

Friday, June 12, 2009

How weird to finally feel on top of things at the supermarket. I went today together with my mom and my dad who was the designated driver and we did shopping for an entire week. I now sit here with an entire meal plan and a kitchen full of food. An awesome feeling.

You can’t fool me. You’re thinking “So what, no big deal”. But it is for me, you see. Ever since I had the
severe depression I have had trouble organizing stuff inside my head, everything sort of gets blurred in one big pile of mushy confusion when I have to make a plan about food. So I usually walk around the supermarket like a headless chicken (except for the cackling, I don’t do that) and when I come home, I carry in my hands a bag of candy, 2 liters of Coke, a bag of carrots and a cucumber. It’s a sad fact.

But this time I am finally on top of things. I know what I will be eating tomorrow, on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Yummy.

Point the getaway car to Saskatchewan

Friday, June 12, 2009

In case I ever rob a bank, I have my hide out planned.

I have never been in Saskatchewan but I have picked this location in case I ever rob a bank and need a place to hide out. There is just no way I would ever get away with a bank robbery and I would be caught real fast. I just hope that I would be able to hide out a few hours in Saskatchewan before the police are on my trail.

Then I would be taken handcuffed past a ton of reporters who would all have to say "Saskatchewan" a LOT of times. It would be worth it.

Mary Beth Tinning: Munchhausen by Proxy Mom

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

I have had fun in the last couple of blog entries but I think it's time now to get back to another crime story. I know that some of our readers come back here for the true crime stories and I want to try to make everybody happy. Besides, I really enjoy doing these kinds of posts.

I am going to write today a little bit about a woman called Mary Beth Tinning. She was actually born Mary Beth Roe in Duanesberg close to New York. As she grew up she had a number of low-wage jobs and in 1963 she met a man called Joe Tinning and got married. At one point she worked as a nurse's aide at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

When Joe and Mary Beth had been married a few years they were the parents of two children: Barbara and Joseph and in late 71 another child was born into the household: Jennifer. She was to live only a month when she died at Schenectady hospital with a diagnosis of meningitis. Shortly thereafter Mary Beth arrived at the Ellis hospital emergency room with Joseph, saying he had had a seizure but the doctors could find nothing wrong with him so they were sent home together. Mary Beth Tinning returned a few hours later and this time her son was dead.

Only six weeks later she was back at the hospital with her daughter Barbara who was now four. The doctors tried to talk Mary Beth into staying at the hospital but she went home with Barbara and a few hours returned once more. Later her daughter died, cause unknown.

Mary Beth Tinning had lost all her children within 90 days of each other but it did not cause suspicion.

The following year she became pregnant with her fourth child: Timothy. Only three weeks after his birth Mary Beth brought him back to the hospital dead. The little boy's death was listed as sudden infant death syndrome.

It sounds unbelievable that nobody was suspicious even at this point but if anybody was, they didn't come forward.

Tinning became pregnant again in 1975 and had a son who she called Nathan. Little baby Nathan was only six months old when he was brought into St. Clare's hospital - dead. Once more the death was listed as SIDS.

Three years later Mary Beth and her husband decided to try to adopt a child and during the adoption proceedings, she became pregnant again and the couple decided to keep both babies. They named the adopted child Michael and their natural child Mary Frances. The little girl was Mary Beth Tinning's child number six.

Michael seemed to be doing okay but when Mary Frances was only three months old she was brought to the emergency room by her mother who claimed the baby girl had had some kind of seizure. Fortunately the emergency room was just across the street from the Tinning's house and the staff were able to revive the little girl. But only one month later Mary Beth came back to the emergency room with her daughter who was brain dead. She could give no explanation for her death and she did not know what had happened, she said.

After Mary Frances' funeral, Mary Beth became pregnant again! She had her seventh child, a little boy called Jonathan and he seemed perfectly fine when he was born. When he was four months old he was brought to the hospital unconscious but was revived. A few days later his mother brought him back. He was brain-dead.

People started talking that there must be some kind of bad gene in the Tinning family but they soon had to think of another explanation for all the kids dying in the Tinning houseful because the adopted child Michael who was now 2 1/2 was taken into hospital unconscious. When the doctor examined him he had already passed away. Because Michael was an adopted child, the idea of a genetic disorder had to be discarded.

Another child would fall victim to Mary Beth Tinning. She had baby number eight who she named Tami Lynne. Her fate was similar to all her dead siblings.

At this point suspicion finally mounted because Mary Beth had been alone with every single child at the time of death but there was no evidence to connect her to the deaths. She was brought in for questioning and confessed to having smothered her children.

Mary Beth Tinning has been up for parole several times but has given only bad excuses for murdering her children, such as "I was going through bad times". She will be eligible for parole again in 2011.

Tinning sufferers from a disease called Munchhausen by proxy syndrome where a person deliberately causes injury to another person in order to gain attention to themselves. It is a form of extended child abuse.

If you're interested in knowing more about this disease, I recommend you visit the following website: Medline Plus; trusted health information for you. Here you will find a lot of information about this particular illness and also others.

This story is just one long tragedy.

New Orleans, Louisiana, 1943. Children jump ro...Kids jumping rope, New Orleans 1943, Image via Wikipedia

Okay here's a little confession: Yesterday I actually went out and bought a jump rope for myself. I know, it's a little silly, a woman aged 35 buying a jump rope for herself. It's just that I had so much fun last weekend with my son where I did that for the first time in years and I just got this joyous feeling! I felt like a little girl again and so many things came back to me, lovely memories from my childhood.

So that's when I thought, why not keep a jump rope at home and get that joyous feeling back now and then? It's important to have fun and remember the child within :-)

When was the last time you went woo-hoo from joy? What made you so happy?

Banknotes from all around the World donated by...Image via Wikipedia

I sometimes get a bit tired of turning every single coin I have and having to be so careful about money. I wish I could stumble across a big load of cash but like so many other adults I am finding that money doesn't grow on trees although trees have branches (little joke there).

Anyway, for a while now I have been trying to think of ways to make an extra income online and it wouldn't have to be a lot, just a little to make life that bit better :-) I wanna try to monetize our blog and possible attract more readers. Just gotta think creatively but most important: You attract what you think about. I will start giving that theory a test.

What do you think? Please give me your comments. How did you make an income online? Do you have a success story to share? Any suggestions for making a bit of money online?

View to Vejle's windmill from pedestrian mall

Image via Wikipedia

From inside a train, that is. I have recently gotten mobile internet, an invention I now don’t know how I ever did without. This is absolutely awesome, being able to be online whilst on the move!

It’s also a good way to distract myself from that horrible feeling I get when I go back to my place alone. It’s the apparently constant price you pay for being divorced with a kid: The gut wrenching feeling you get when you are without your child. Anyway, happy thoughts, law of attraction: You are what you think about and so on. I will use all my energy on feeling good and thus attracting good things for me and my son.

This has gotta be exciting for my readers also: I am right now stuck in the Danish town of Vejle (see photo), having to wait ten minutes for another passing train, the curious lady who sat next to me and followed my every move and word online has gotten off – she made it impossible for me to write a word here on my blog because her eyes were glued to the screen. Weird. Anyway, all is calm and well now, except the dude opposite me is eating a really smelly sandwich. Yikes.

When I get settled at home again, I will begin to come up with hopefully good ideas for more podcasts and perhaps even a few videos for this blog. Kurt, my co host, has come down with the flu so he will probably be incapacitated for a while but I will keep the ship sailing on my own until he is well again. If you guys have any suggestions for stuff you’d like us to podcast about, please write a comment for us. Kurt specializes in magic due to his massive career in the field and I am sure he’d love to share some stories and tips for up-coming magicians and I am a real true crime geeks and I know details about lots of true crime cases and personalities in the criminal world. Of course we can talk about other stuff, too, so any suggestions/ideas are more than welcome.

We’re also looking for a way to get more traffic here and to monetize this blog.

I noticed that once the blog is inactive for a few days, we lose quite a few Feedburner followers which is sort of weird because very few people have the time to write several blog entries a day. I am guessing the people who decided to unfollow were people just checking us out and deciding against following us.

That’s it on this topic for now. Please leave comments, we love feedback!

This is Gitte Gorzelak, your co-host of Sleight of Blog, signing off.

An 1800 depiction of jumping rope

Image via Wikipedia

My mom and son are sitting in front of the TV watching the Denmark-Sweden football game. And I am sitting a little further away behind my laptop but listening to the game. I am not really a football – or any kind of sport – person but my nine year old son is in love with the game so I told him it’d be okay to go with me and watch the game with his grandma.

The last week has been really busy for me; I’ve been out of town and I’ve been jumping rope and playing the excellent game of badminton with my son. We are so bad it’s ridiculous but it’s a ton of fun! I guess I know what we will be doing in our summer vacation now. Practice makes perfect, that’s what they say, right?

Some big, exciting news too! Sue from The Sue & Steve Show (visit the link in our link bar on top of the page) has been kind enough to check out our podcast and she gave us some nice pointers which we will try our best to follow.
I sure wish we had some good podcasting software but it costs a bundle, it seems. I know there are free programs but I really want a pro one! Cos when you use pro software, you feel like a pro. I think. Anyway, when I get more time available I will be podcasting more and trying to improve things.

I will be back tomorrow with Moore smile_wink

A child sleeping.

Image via Wikipedia

Hey peeps, I’ve been out of town for a few days and haven’t had time to update the blog but now I am back and have a bit of time to write a few thoughts down – before I fall off the chair from exhaustion.

I saw Barack Obama’s speech on TV today and I remain in awe of him. He is a born speaker, incredibly well spoken and a true leader. I am sure he will do great things for America and the rest of the world. Amazing man.

If you missed his speech, you can watch it here: http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/obamaforamerica/gGGGhZ

Another urgent thought: I really must get a tan. I wore short black trousers these past few days and my very bright and aware son said: “Mom you look like a chess board, black and white”. I must get a tan, I must get a tan..

Not the most interesting of blog entries but don’t expect more from a pale white, Danish, extremely tired woman.

Thank you.
